Cancer side effects

Long-term cancer treatment side effects

Diagnosis

When I was diagnosed with cancer 17 years ago it shut me down. I didn’t know what to think or what to feel. My brain was whirling and my emotions were all over the board. (You can read my cancer story here: My cancer story)

The barrage of doctor appointments and treatments were my top priority. My husband and I were kept very busy!

Does this sound familiar so far?

The hard year of treatments

Side-effects

My focus was on just making it through the cancer itself. Of course it was . That is the main thing. When you are diagnosed with cancer you have to devote yourself to taking care of yourself and surviving. Treatments can cure the cancer. I thank God that they did in my case. It wasn’t a pretty road, and I needed a LOT of help, but the cancer is gone.

I don’t know what your treatments involved, but I’m sure it was NOT easy!

Treatments can also create new challenges for the distant future. I had no idea that my treatments would bring along major side effects that wouldn’t become a problem until 12 or more years down the road.

Then the long-term side effects

I started having trouble with all kinds of different things in my body. I questioned if it was just me making something out of nothing, or if it could be real. So, I started looking around and reading what I could find about long-term side effects.

I thought I’d share some of what I found. Maybe some of it will be interesting to you.

My research

Here are some links if you want to take a look.

Long term side effects site   I found this site that talks about some long-term side-effects. It kind of touches a little bit on a lot of different areas. It pretty broad, but interesting.

Breast cancer   This site was specifically about breast cancer long term side effect side but as I read it I found many were side effects I deal with too. Maybe you will see something that touches you in some way.

Mouth Cancer  This site was closer to home for me. It is a good short article about long term side effects from mouth cancer treatments.

Head and Neck cancer  This site was really good. So much in this one hit the mark. It’s not that it shows what can be fixed, but it helps me to know that I’m not just imagining things or making things up.

More to come

I plan to keep adding more links to other articles that I find interesting or helpful.  You may want to check back again now and then. If you find a helpful article, please leave a comment for me so that I can include it here as well!

If you would like to read more about different things I’ve done check out my website: After Cancer

I have another website that is just for fun. It’s about one of my hobbies – drawing! Come see it sometime too: Fun Drawing Sources

Have a wonderful day.
